Biography

Carlos N. Velez, Ph.D., MBA, has been involved in life science research, technology assessment, consulting, and valuation since 1990. He has substantial expertise in the assessment and valuation of life science technologies such as pharmaceuticals, diagnostics and medical devices. Carlos leveraged this experience to form Erie Hudson Life Science Consulting, a boutique firm focused on life science strategy consulting, business development and financial advisory.


Previously, Carlos was a Senior Consultant with The Frankel Group/equity4Life, a New York-based management consulting and venture capital firm. His clients ranged from venture-backed start ups to multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. In addition, investment banks, venture capital firms, and private equity firms tapped into Carlos’ technology assessment and financial modeling expertise.

Carlos was also directly responsible for many business plan reviews, and took the lead on a number of due diligence efforts, several of which led directly to investments by the fund.

Prior to joining The Frankel Group/equity4Life, Carlos was a member of the New Business Development Group at Genencor International, a biotechnology company which develops, manufactures, and commercializes enzyme based products for several industries.

Carlos earned his MBA in Finance and Technology Management from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Carlos also holds a Ph.D. degree in Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While earning his doctorate, Carlos practiced as a licensed pharmacist in North Carolina. Carlos’ undergraduate degree is a B.S. in Pharmacy from the Albany College of Pharmacy.
